Kindergarten Registration for 2020-21

Even though District 60 school buildings remain closed, you can still pre-register your child to start Kindergarten in Fall 2020!

Now is a good time to register your child for Kindergarten. For your convenience, you can register right now online!

Who can register?

If your child was born on or before Oct. 1, 2015, he or she can be registered for Kindergarten for the 2020-21 school year. If your child is too young for Kindergarten for the upcoming school year and you are interested in District 60's preschool program, you can find more information on the Preschool Eligibility and Application page.

Do I need to register now?

No. While online registration is a very convenient way to register your child for Kindergarten, you also have the option to register in person:

  • At the D60 Administration Building (315 W. 11th St.) beginning in July (if buildings can be re-opened by that time)
  • At your child's designated neighborhood elementary school when buildings re-open in August.
  • If your child is currently enrolled at a D60 pre-school, he or she has been automatically enrolled at his or her neighborhood elementary school. Note: your neighborhood elementary school may not be the same as your child's current pre-school. More information is below.

What school will my child attend?

Based on your home address, your child has a designated neighborhood elementary school that he or she will attend. Your "neighborhood elementary school" is often the elementary school closest to your home, but that isn't always the case. Double-check our neighborhood elementary school boundary map to see which school your child is supposed to attend.

What if my child is currently enrolled in a D60 pre-school?

If your four-year-old is enrolled in a D60 preschool this year, then he or she has been automatically registered for kindergarten this fall at their neighborhood elementary school.  In some cases, this is not the same school that your preschool student attended this year.

What if I want my child to attend a school other than their neighborhood elementary school?

If you have won or accepted a seat for your child through "School Choice 2020-21," then he or she is already registered to attend that school in the fall.

Otherwise, if you want your child to attend a school other than his or her neighborhood elementary school, select the school you wish to attend during the online registration process. This will add your child to the waitlist for entry into that school. D60 cannot guarantee that there will be space available for your child at your preferred school, but many parents are successful. If a space at your preferred school is available for your child, someone from that school will contact you directly.

Please read the School Choice information page so that you know what to expect and what your responsibilities are.
