How to Enroll
Thank you for choosing Pueblo City Schools. Each of our schools has a distinct personality
and offers something unique for its students. We offer open enrollment, meaning you can chose your neighbor school or another public school (based on availabile space in the school). Enrollment is easy, simply call, visit or email your neighborhood school; however, to help get you started please review the simple directions below. Regardless of which school you choose, rest-assured your child will receive the strong, nurturing, well-rounded education s/he needs to succeed.
STEP 1
Determine your student's eligibility
Children entering kindergarten must be five-years-old on or before June 1 of each year. Any student under the age of 21 on the first day
of school is eligible for enrollment. Children entering first grade must be six-years-old on or before June 1 of each year. If the child is not a U.S. citizen and has not attended a U.S. school continuously for the past two years, or is a U.S. citizen who has been attending a non-U.S. school overseas, please call (719) 549-7188. Parent or guardian must present a State Birth Certificate at the time of enrollment. If the child does not live with a parent, legal guardian, or certified relative, please call (719) 549-7188.
STEP 2
Identify and contact your school
Please register at your child’s local school after August 10. If you do not know what school is in your area, you may call (719) 549-7188 between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. to obtain this information.

We offer open enrollment; however each school must accommodate students within their boundary prior to accepting students from outside. Parents who are given permission for their child(ren) to attend a school of choice are responsible for providing transportation to and from their open enrollment school.
Families choosing open enrollment have two options: within-district and between-districts. Within-district open enrollment is for Pueblo resident students who want to enroll in a school other than their neighborhood school. Families must complete a formal application,Open Enrollment Permit, beginning the first day of the second semester of the school year prior to enrollment. Acceptance is based upon availability of space. Applications are available online by selecting the above link, from the school or the Department of Student Support and Community Services. Applications must be signed by a parent or guardian and delivered to the school of choice.
Between-district open enrollment is for students from other school districts who want to enroll in Pueblo City Schools. Families must submit an application, Inter-District Enrollment Permit, to their school of choice beginning the first da y
of the second semester to be considered for the following year. These applications are available online by selecting the above link, from the school or the Department of Student Support and Community Services. Applications must be signed by a parent or guardian and delivered to the school of choice.
Parents registering their children for the first time in a Pueblo City Schools must go to the school and provide a state birth certificate, immunization record and proof of residency. Required immunizations must be completed at registration. Students who have previously attended school should bring their latest report card, if available. Students receiving special education services should bring a copy of the current Individualized Education Program (IEP).

Immunizations
Colorado state law requires all students enrolling in Colorado schools furnish a Certificate of immunization for diptheria, tetanus, pertussis (whooping cough), polio, measles, rubella, Varicella and Hepatitis B. Haemophilus influenza type b (Hib) vaccination is only required for children entering preschool or day care. Beginning school year 2007-2008 students entering 6th and 10th grades will be required to have a Tdap. A second Varicella (Chicken Pox) is required of all students entering Kindergarten in 2007-2008.
Acceptable proofs of residency
Homeowners: If homeowner, a copy of your current property tax bill.
Renters: If renter, a copy of your current (less than one-year-old) lease. If lease is more than one-year-old or a copy of your lease
Shared Housing Residents: If living in shared housing, a notarized form (available at all schools) and either a copy of the current property tax bill of the homeowner or a copy of the lease of renter with whom student and parent are living and other supporting documents.
