Start earning your college credits while you are still in high school!

Would you like to get ahead before you even get started?    If you are considering going to college why wait until you graduate from high school…you can start earning your college
credits now.

If you are a qualifying sophomore,* junior or senior, the Pueblo Early College (EC) program provides you the opportunity to earn an associates degree or a professional certificate.     With this program you can earn college credits at the same time you are achieving your high school diploma!

PEC is an initiative of   Pueblo City Schools and Pueblo Community College.  This means the college credits you earn in high school count toward degrees or certificates at     Pueblo Community College…they also transfer to state four-year institutions. If you are planning to
enter the workforce after high school, a PEC career/technical education certificate will help
you quickly enter high-skill, high-wage occupations.

If you are a Pueblo City Schools sophomore, junior or senior you need to successfully pass the college-level Accuplacer test, meet all course requirements for   Pueblo Community College and have a composite score of 18 or higher on the ACT.

·      Have an outstanding class attendance record

·      Pass all recommended high school classes

·      Successfully complete Algebra and Geometry

·      Receive the recommendation of your counselor and principal, and the approval of
     the superintendent and the college president.

With the Pueblo Early College program you are investing in your future.  Yet, investing in yourself does not mean you have to pay a lot of money.     Actually, as a Pueblo City Schools’ student you do not have to pay anything.   Put another way you do not have tuition.    Let’s be even clearer…as a Pueblo Early College student you are able to take classes for FREE!    And on top of that Pueblo Community College will provide assistance with books.   All you have to pay for is your transportation to and from class.

Do I have to give up my high school extracurricular activities?

That is a choice you will have to make, but as a Pueblo Early College student you have no restrictions on your high school activities.  Actually, you are encouraged to make the most of your high school years.  An important point to remember though is how best to manage your time and organization.  We want you to succeed, in high school and in college, so make wise choices as you prepare for your future.

The first thing you need is a great attitude!    And as you already have that, you’re off to a great start.  Next, visit with your high school counselor and s/he will help you explore your options.     If you qualify (you can declare as early as a sophomore) all you need to do is complete an application. For more information about how you can accelerate your education, visit with your high school counselor today.
