"Pueblo City Schools – a unique educational community strengthened by its diversity, culture and traditions – is to guarantee a “world-class education that prepares graduates to succeed in a global society.” This will be accomplished through innovative state-of-the-art technologies, superior curricula and highly skilled educators driven by active partnerships with students, families and communities."

Pueblo City Schools is unique in that it is one of the few school districts in the nation to have a community-led strategic plan. During the first-half of 2007, more than 300 community volunteers came together to address the PreK-12 educational needs of the Pueblo community. These volunteers spoke with one voice in saying a paradigm shift was needed to move the district forward, to change Pueblo School District 60 into Pueblo City Schools...a school district that would redefine public education in America.

A main charge of the community was to completely recreate the district. Accountability and results are at the forefront of every decision made. The curriculum, which was geared to State of Colorado standards, would be revamped to meet international standards. Schools and classrooms would be revamped, changing a method of teaching that has existed in America since the early 1900's to the international model. New and innovative challenges, such as creating magnet schools, transforming to a "paperless" district and creating a new form of Individual Education Plans for every student were directed.

The success of the Pueblo City Schools' Strategic Plan is dependent on the support of every member of the Pueblo community. Completely changing a school district is a formidable, but not impossible, task. Changing the lives of children so that they are provided the educational and social tools and skills they need to succeed in a global society is the responsibility not only of the schools, but of parents and the community.

Will you help Pueblo City Schools meet the objectives of the strategic plan? Will you help the students of this community? And will you help recreate a school district that will be second to none in the United States of America? If so, please contact the Superintendent's office at (719) 549-7148. We look forward to your support!
