Water Testing Information

Pueblo City Schools (D60) and the Board of Waterworks of Pueblo are partnering in a proactive effort to ensure we are providing facilities with water that meets the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) drinking water standards. Water samples will be taken from all drinking fountains, kitchen food prep sinks, lounge sinks and other fixtures used for consuming water in all our schools. This will be a major undertaking for our School District and will take some time to complete. Each school will be notified as soon as the testing begins, and again after the results have been compiled.

Although we are primarily testing for lead, we will also be analyzing levels of other elements that can be found in water. Should anything be discovered at levels higher than EPA recommendations, we will take immediate action to disable the water source affected. Alternate options for filtering or providing water will be made available in the event any sources are disabled.

Lead isn’t present in the water Pueblo Water sends to our schools, but lead can get into water as it moves through lead-containing plumbing and fixtures. While we do not have evidence at this time that our schools have elevated levels of lead in their water supply, the safety of our students and staff is our top priority.
